Good stay

This is Chris Sewell who runs an awesome refurbed motel in Santa Barbara, CA. You can check it out here http://thepresidiomotel.com/  Besides a pretty chill vibe, they also have great taste in music and give out cool mixed cd's for people's continued travels.

313

We've been working on a project in Detroit over the last year PRAIRIE AND PAVEMENT and were heading back to spend some time and do some more photos. The project is more involved than just destruction and decay. We've resisted making it about "ruin porn", however one of the things that ends up happening is wandering around abandoned factories and dormant auto plants, which is not always the safest (or the smartest) thing to do. Nevertheless, it always feels like being in that Will Smith movie; "I am Legend". It's a one of a kind place that offers some urban experiences that can't be found on this level anywhere else.

Blue Monday

So, apparently Monday January 17th is described as BLUE MONDAY; the most depressing day of the year. It has to do with post Christmas, bills coming in, crap weather etc. This image was photographed for a travel article in Belize where I'm almost positive it is not depressing right now.

MAYAKA

We did a project for dignitas international this past year in Malawi, Africa. Dignitas provides community based HIV and TB care to rural and isolated communities in Malawi's Zomba district; part of the remote rift valley. Mayaka is a small outpost that has a health centre where people from outlying villages can come for consultations and HIV/ARV check-ups. We ended up photographing all of the patients who came through in a two hour period. I was only permitted to take one photo of each person and it was all shot on film. A series of the images won the portrait series in the Applied Arts Photo Annual. Were putting together some work for some contest entries this year and thought about these images and the people in them.

TUNDRA

We were up North this past week and the lakes are frozen and the biting cold has set in...crunchy snow under the feet and inky blue light before darkness means real winter has arrived. Duncan (the dog) our fearless explorer wanted to check the state of things for  himself.  His whole life is documented in photos; you can see more HERE

Rupinder

Rupinder Nagra is an awesome and talented dude in London, UK. He emailed to say he just became a dad to a lovely new baby girl. We've shot photos for a few different projects, including these back in the Fall. He's involved in various facets of film and is one of the kindest, yet coolest people you could ever hope to meet. Check him out in this film "Amal" for which he won various awards with a heartbreaking performance.

Tommie Amber Pirie

Tommie is an actress who can be seen in "The Trotsky" among other films. We've shot photos before and it's always fun and enjoyable. The latest were done just before Christmas for editorial. I know she's one of those people that I'll say 'I knew her when..."
